project. ◌∘² pavilion

the ❝fresh air pavilion❞ project sets a goal to educate as many people as possible about the global problem of carbon dioxide emissions, using physical and digital space

a speculative design approach to aging

for us, humans, it is quite difficult to visualise the climate change and the consequences of the CO2 emissions. people tend to focus more on the phenomenons that they clearly see, smell, touch, feel, connect to emotionally and understand.

the O2 FRESH AIR PAVILION & APP were designed in order to help users and visitors of the university campus built strong emotional connection to the climate change problems - especially carbon dioxide pollution issue - and be empathic enough to make the real change through their actions.

project methods:

architecture

space design

advanced 3D modeling

UX/UI design

prototyping and user testing

creative storytelling

the O2 PAVILION is designed as a space, where people can spend quality time and learn about the CO2 emissions issues. The contrast between the fresh forest air inside the pavilion and polluted air on the territory of university campus in Schöneweide will make the CO2 problem literally tangible. After their visit to the pavilion, users are able to realize the significance of the air pollution disaster based on their own experiences and senses.

The O2 APP supports and expands the concept, making the pavilion more interactive. It provides users with an option to dive in into informative content, gain knowledge about CO2 emissions and pavilion itself, find special pathways and learn about the plant species growing in the pavilion.

concept definition

system and experience design

A pavilion should be a large space for spending free time while breathing with fresh air and raising awareness about CO2 emissions issues.

The idea behind the shape is to make the user spend as much time in pavilion, as possible by creating interesting paths and merging spaces. There‘re several open spaces (lawns) inside the pavilion.

In addition to the pavilion, the app, which functions only on the territory of pavilion and provides educative and interactive content, is designed. The user receives notification, when they enter the pavilion, which leads to the app's informative content, making people gain knowledge about CO2 emissions, check out air-purifying plants and find special pathways!
